As most of you know I am very much book obsessed and I was thinking about doing this post anyway. However, the lovely Beth tagged me to do this and I was so excited as it meant I had an even bigger excuse to start doing this post. Beth also has a really lovely blog which documents her travels, thoughts and dealing with anxiety.
So, here’s the post…
1. Do you have a certain place at home for reading?
I wouldn’t say I have a certain place. I love being in bed or lying on top of my bed with my many pillows as it means I can also fall asleep reading which I do often. If I don’t want to be in my bedroom then I will be in the conservatory as it’s so light and airy and I like looking out onto the garden when reading.
2. Bookmark or random piece of paper?
I do have some lovely bookmarks, mostly leather ones or ones which have wolves on them. Since I love anything wolf related, slight obsession. However, I usually forget to use one or have a few books on the go so all my bookmarks are in other books. Then I just use pieces of paper, random bus tickets or receipts.
3. Can you just stop reading or do you have to stop after a chapter/a certain amount of pages?
I usually just ignore everything if I’m reading as I prefer just concentrating on the novel and it means I can engage more with it. However, if my phone does go and I want to get it I will just stop at the end of the page or if I can the chapter. I can always seem to get back into a novel even if I have stopped reading.
4. Do you eat or drink while reading?
I don’t really eat whilst I am reading at all. I do drink whilst reading though, I normally drink tea, coffee or water. Before bed I prefer reading with a big cup of hot chocolate.
5. Multitasking: Music or TV while reading?
This is something that I can’t do. I cannot stand noise while I’m trying to read. Even when I am revising I hate music on in the background, I’ll end up singing and won’t do anything else.
6. One book at a time or several at once?
I read a lot of books at once or if I prefer one book than the rest or want to finish one then I will and move onto the next. It’s quite bad really as I should just start on one book and finish that before starting another.
7. Reading at home or everywhere?
Everywhere. I read mostly in the house but I normally take a book in my bag whenever I go out or when I go to work.
8. Reading out loud or silently in your head?
I read in my head. I doubt I could ever read out loud to myself, especially outside the house. I would think many people would think I am insane.
9. Do you read ahead or even skip pages?
If I enjoy reading a book then I don’t skip pages at all but if the page is really repetitive and I am getting bored then I will do. The only thing I never EVER do is read ahead. That would ruin the whole story. Are you ever a true book lover if you read ahead?
10. Breaking the spine or keeping it like new?
I would never break the spine. If a book is well read, a book is well read. I don’t think you can keep your favourite books like new anyway and they shouldn’t have to be kept perfect. I guess it also shows how well loved they are.
11. Do you write in your books?
No, I don’t normally write in books. If it is a book for university, one that is my own copy which I had bought, they I will do for essays but I prefer to just use post it notes and sticky notes. I don’t normally like to write in books though. I especially hate it when people write in library books but I have found some have been really helpful, especially those from the university library.
